The Building Almanac

The conditions acting on a building, gathered in one place. Long-run climate evidence, current official weather and active alerts for Canada and the United States, with what each may mean for the systems a building has. Coverage grows as official sources are verified, and differs between the two.

What ICI tracks in each country

Coverage differs between Canada and the United States. This table is generated from the evidence ICI holds: Canada counts the 13 provinces and territories, the United States counts the 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Condition Profiles use governed building-condition relationships. These are published for Canadian provinces and territories now; United States relationships are being prepared from United States authorities and are not shown until they meet the same standard.

What the map is

The Canada outline is a display reference derived from Statistics Canada's 2021 Census cartographic boundaries. It is not legal, cadastral, parcel or survey geometry, it is not used to select or classify a province or territory, and it is not evidence of anything.

Boundaries for all thirteen provinces and territories, the fifty states and the District of Columbia are drawn above the outline. A boundary on the map is a display reference only: it is not an absence or presence of hazard.

What the map does not do

The map performs no containment test and no distance calculation. Evidence is attached to a province or territory by the publisher's own fields, never by where a shape falls on a map. No address, postal code or building location is accepted, stored or matched here.

Reading the evidence

Where no evidence summary exists yet, that is not a count of zero events and is not evidence that nothing occurred. Where a figure is unavailable it is shown as unavailable and never as zero.

Everything in the Almanac is regional context. It describes conditions near a location, never the condition of a particular building, and it never changes a Condition Profile result.
